It’s been over four years since we started OpenTech. In that time, I’m proud to say we’ve taken the concept of self-storage kiosks from idea to fruition. In fact, our INSOMNIAC kiosks are now installed across the U.S. from California to Maine, in Canada, Australia and Hong Kong, China.  In the near future we are looking to expand into other Asian countries, plus a few European countries like Great Briton, the Netherlands, and Germany.

One of the best signs that kiosks are here to stay in our industry is the range of facilities using them. From large 2000-unit facilities such as AAAAA Rent-A-Space, to midsize fully automated facilities such as those run by Storage Express, and finally to the many owner operators using INSOMNIAC so they don’t have to be onsite 24 hours per day; the benefits of self-service are hard to beat.

This rapid kiosk adoption could not have been made possible without the help of our Alliance Partners. Over 12 partners include SMD Software, Empower Software Technology, Centershift, Syrasoft, eMove and PTI just to mention a few, and worked with us to make sure our technologies was seamless. We’re pleased we continue to add to this list and now count all of the major vendors as partners.

One of the reasons INSOMNIAC has caught on so rapidly is its quick return on investment. Besides providing increased customer convenience, INSOMNIAC is truly a selling machine. It’s not uncommon to learn INSOMNIAC took more than 25 payments and made 7 rentals in its first week of installation even at small facilities. The transaction numbers are mind-boggling and demonstrate why other industries such as airlines have also adopted kiosks so quickly.
