Founder of Self-Storage Chooses INSOMNIAC Kiosks

AAAAA Rent-A-Space Mega Facilities Install INSOMNIAC Kiosks

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona – June 21, 2005 – OpenTech Alliance, Inc. announced today that H. James Knuppe, one of the founders of the self-storage industry, has chosen INSOMNIAC™ kiosks for his AAAAA Rent-A-Space self-storage facilities. “5A” is installing two INSOMNIAC kiosks per site at its Colma and Berkeley facilities in California, and one at its Kapolei facility in Hawaii. These mega facilities are the largest in the nation, with Kapolei having over 1300 units and Berkeley and Colma having over 2000 units each.

Mr. Knuppe has been a licensed General Contractor since 1960. His company pioneered the introduction of the self-service storage concept in the San Francisco Bay Area. Today AAAAA Rent-A-Space owns and operates 15 self-storage properties in California and Hawaii. The company is continuing its tradition of innovation by installing INSOMNIAC kiosks for added customer convenience.

“We’ve thought about self-storage kiosks for a long time,” said Mr. Knuppe. “It wasn’t until INSOMNIAC that we found a kiosk solution robust enough to handle the demands of our large facilities. We’re really delighted OpenTech has brought this technology to the self-storage market.”

Mr. Knuppe continued, “Our rollout plan was to put the kiosks in the office for the first 60 days so managers could help train customers on how to use them. Instead, we’re finding many customers that come into the office go directly to the kiosk to make payments and rent units. They’re so used to self-service ATM's in other industries they immediately grasp the concept.”

In one week, the Colma facility processed 206 transactions using INSOMNIAC including rentals, payments, lock purchases and account access and update screens. For the month of May, this amounted to 42 payments and 35 rentals. Based on this success, 5A has ordered 18 additional kiosks for its remaining facilities. Because it runs such large facilities, most will receive an INSOMNIAC 900 and INSOMNIAC 200 so customers don’t have to wait in line when one is busy.

INSOMNIAC 900 is OpenTech’s top-of-the-line self-storage kiosk with built in fingerprint scanner, signature pad, driver’s license scanner, digital camera, check and credit card scanner. The kiosk enables tenants to rent units, make payments, update their account information, and purchase locks. The INSOMNIAC 200 is an industrial-strength paystation for facilities looking for a low-cost payment solution. It is also a great supplement for high volume facilities employing multiple INSOMNIAC 900 kiosks.

Created exclusively for the self-storage industry, INSOMNIAC is the industry’s first vendor neutral, full-service kiosk. For more information about INSOMNIAC or the INSOMNIAC leasing program, please call (602) 749-9370 or visit www.opentechalliance.com.
